Payments built for Egypt: Paymob, Fawry and mobile wallets
Most software sold into Egypt treats payments as an afterthought. In reality your customers split across several rails, and your system has to record every payment against the right invoice, in EGP, without someone matching screenshots at the end of the day.
- Paymob for online card and wallet checkout and payment links, including integrations built on its Accept API, with payment callbacks verified on the server before an order is marked paid.
- Fawry reference codes, so a customer without a card can pay at a Fawry outlet or from a mobile wallet, and the order updates when the payment notification arrives.
- Mobile wallets: Vodafone Cash, Orange Cash and e& money (formerly Etisalat Cash), usually collected through your gateway rather than integrated one wallet at a time.
- InstaPay transfers on the Central Bank of Egypt's Instant Payment Network, logged against invoices with a reference, so your finance team confirms them in one queue instead of scrolling through WhatsApp.
- EGP first ledgers with an optional USD view and dated exchange rates for importers and exporters. When the Central Bank of Egypt floated the pound in March 2024 it lost more than a third of its value against the dollar within hours, so an old invoice must keep the rate it was issued at.
The ledger thinking comes from our own product. Moyo Pay is a dual-currency wallet we built on a double-entry ledger with Mobile Money and USSD. Egypt's rails are different, but the discipline carries over: every payment is an entry, every entry balances, and reconciliation is a report rather than a weekend job. Arabic and English, with right-to-left done properly
An Arabic version is not a translated menu. When a cashier in Alexandria or a customer in Mansoura switches to Arabic, the whole interface should mirror: navigation on the right, tables reading right to left, arrows pointing the correct way, and phone numbers and EGP amounts still displaying cleanly inside Arabic sentences.
What goes into a bilingual system
- Right-to-left layouts designed from the first screen, not bolted on after launch, and tested with real Arabic text rather than placeholder copy.
- Bilingual records, so a product, service or employee carries both an Arabic and an English name and each user sees their own language.
- Arabic invoices, receipts and payslips as PDFs with correctly joined letters, which generic PDF tools often break.
- Arabic search that treats common spelling variants, such as the different forms of alef, as the same word, so staff find the customer on the first try.
- SMS, email and WhatsApp notifications in the language each customer chose.
- A setting for Western or Eastern Arabic numerals, depending on what your customers expect.
The honest trade-off: a bilingual build costs more than a single-language one, because every screen, message and document is designed and tested twice. If your users all work in English, we will say so and quote for English only.

For lenders and fintech founders we build loan origination, repayment schedules, collections through Fawry and wallets, and portfolio reporting on the same double-entry principles as Moyo Pay. Egypt's Financial Regulatory Authority licenses non-bank consumer finance and MSME finance, and in September 2026 it told those lenders to report approvals, disbursements, every repayment, terminations and legal action to I-Score, the Egyptian Credit Bureau, as they happen. A loan system has to produce those events cleanly from the first loan, so confirm the effective dates with your compliance adviser before we scope.

When custom software is the wrong choice
We would rather lose a sale than build something you do not need. Hold off on custom software in Egypt if any of these are true:
- You only need to take payments. Paymob payment links, for example, let you collect from a customer over WhatsApp or social media with no build at all.
- Your invoicing already runs in an accounting package connected to the tax authority. Keep it, and have any new system send data to it rather than replace it.
- Your process still changes every month. If you are still testing whether customers prefer paying by wallet, by InstaPay or in cash through Fawry, run it in a spreadsheet until the pattern settles.
- Nobody on your side can sign off. Custom work needs one person who can approve screens, and the Arabic wording on them, within a day or two, or a bilingual build stalls.
