The short answer

Google Ads conversion tracking setup means telling Google which clicks ended in something you value (a form submit, a phone call, a WhatsApp or chat click or a booking) and then proving the numbers match what really happened. Done properly, your account shows what each enquiry cost instead of what each click cost, and Google's automated bidding learns from real outcomes instead of guesses.

We offer a one-off setup with a written test report. We install and test each action, remove double counting, connect your cookie banner to Google's consent signals for visitors in the EU and UK, and hand you a plain list of what is tracked and how we proved it. If you also want someone to run the campaigns, see Google Ads management for small business.

Which page do your Google Ads send people to?Send the web address of the page your ads land on, and we will tell you what can be tracked there and quote it.

What to track in your Google Ads account

Most owners start with "leads" and stop there. A lead can arrive five different ways, and each needs its own tracking. These are the ones worth setting up.

  • Form submits. Count the successful submission, not a view of a thank-you page that anyone can reload or bookmark. Set the action to count one conversion per click, so a visitor who submits twice is one lead.
  • Calls from your ads. If you run call assets, track calls from the ad itself. Google counts calls over 60 seconds by default, and you can raise or lower that to fit your business, so a hang-up does not count as a lead.
  • Calls to your site number. People often click an ad, read your page, then phone. In supported countries, a Google forwarding number swapped onto your page can credit that call to the click that brought them. It is not offered everywhere, so we check your country first.
  • WhatsApp and chat clicks. You can track WhatsApp clicks in Google Ads by firing an event when someone taps the WhatsApp link or opens your chat widget. Be clear about what this is: it counts the click to start a chat, not a finished conversation.
  • Bookings. Count the confirmed booking or the payment step, with a value where you know it. If the sale closes later by phone or email, the real outcome can be sent back to Google against the original click using enhanced conversions for leads, which Google now recommends for new offline setups.

Primary and secondary actions

Google bids toward the actions you mark as primary. We mark the outcomes you would pay for (a submitted enquiry, a qualified call, a booking) as primary, and keep softer signals such as phone number taps as secondary. Secondary actions show in your reports without steering your spend, with one catch we check for: an action placed inside a custom goal can be used for bidding even if it is marked secondary.

How we test that it works

A tag that exists is not a tag that works. Installation is the easy half. The test is what you are paying for.

  • We run each action ourselves on a phone and a desktop, using a live ad click where possible, and check it fires once, and only once, in Google Tag Assistant.
  • We confirm the conversion linker runs on every page, not just the thank-you page. Without it, conversions still happen but are not credited to the ad that earned them.
  • We test the awkward paths: a form that errors, a double submit, a reload of the thank-you page, a visitor who declines cookies, a visitor who accepts them.
  • We compare your Google Ads count against your inbox, phone log or booking system over a short period, and explain any gap. New actions can take a day or two to show in the account, and a status of "No recent conversions" right after testing can simply mean the tag was verified.

You receive a written test report: each action tracked, how it is triggered, what we did to test it, the result, and anything we could not verify and why. If you later change your site or hand it to another developer, the report tells them what must keep working.

Common faults we find in existing setups

Double counting

The tag sits in Google Tag Manager and has also been pasted into the website theme. Or a Google Analytics goal has been imported alongside a native conversion, so one enquiry counts twice. Your cost per lead then looks half the truth and bidding chases the wrong signal.

Missing consent mode in the EU and UK

Google's EU User Consent Policy asks advertisers to get consent from visitors in the EEA and UK and to pass their choice to Google. In practice that means consent mode v2 signals, including ad_user_data and ad_personalization, wired to your cookie banner. Without them, tags either fire for visitors who declined, or conversions from consenting visitors are lost, and audiences and measurement suffer. We connect your banner to the tags and test both the accept and decline paths. We are not your lawyer, so the wording of your cookie policy remains yours to confirm. If the banner itself needs replacing, that is a site job, and we do it as part of website design for UK businesses.

Forms that redirect without firing

Many forms send people on to another page or an outside booking engine before the tag has had time to fire, or never load a thank-you page at all. The conversion is simply missed. The fix is to fire on the successful submission itself, and to carry the click information across if the booking happens on another domain.

Counting things that are not customers

We often see every page view, every button click or every phone tap marked as a primary conversion. The account then reports a healthy cost per conversion while the inbox stays quiet.

Tracking broken by a redesign

Someone updates the form or the page and the tag silently dies. This is why we build tracking into pages from the start in our landing page design services, and why the test report lists exactly what to re-check after any change.

What you get and what it costs

The setup is a one-off job. We look at your site and your Google Ads account, agree the list of actions to track, and give you a fixed quote before work starts. Payment follows our 50/25/25 plan. You own the accounts, the tags and the data throughout.

Ways to get conversion tracking done with us
OptionOur priceBest when
One-off setup and written test reportFixed quote agreed before work starts, after we see your site and accountYou run your own ads and need the tracking right once
Ongoing monthly support a monthYour site changes often and you want regular checks

The quote depends on how many actions you need and how your site is built. A simple site with one form and a phone number is a small job. A booking flow across two domains is a bigger one.

When you should not hire us, and how we work

You probably do not need us if

  • You are not spending on ads yet. Get a page that converts first.
  • Your site has one simple form on a platform with a built-in, working Google Ads connection, and you can follow its setup guide.
  • You want someone to run the campaigns as well. That is a different service, covered under Google Ads management, though the tracking setup applies there too.

How we work

Growth Informer Software Services is a US-based company with remote teams around the world, including a team in Kampala, Uganda. Senior engineers do the work, and a US team member joins your video calls. The Kampala team works East Africa Time (UTC+3), which overlaps the UK and European working day and the start of the US East Coast day. We have managed over USD 100k of client ad spend and have 37 live website and app builds on our portfolio, including landing pages and a direct booking form for Lorato Lodges and Camping in Chobe, Botswana. If your bookings run through a form or booking tool you want measured, see our direct booking system.

The same team stays with you after the job, which matters when tracking needs a check six months later.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Google Ads conversion tracking setup cost?

The one-off setup is a fixed quote agreed before work starts, based on how many actions you need and how your site is built. If you want us to keep checking it, ongoing monthly support is a month.

Can you track phone calls from Google Ads?

Yes. We can track calls made from your ads, and calls made to the number on your website where Google offers forwarding numbers in your country, so the call is credited to the click that led to it. Google counts calls over 60 seconds by default and we set the length that suits your business, so short or accidental calls do not count as leads.

Can you track WhatsApp clicks in Google Ads?

Yes. We fire a conversion when someone taps your WhatsApp link or opens your chat. That records the click to start a chat, not whether a conversation followed, so we label it clearly in your report.

Do I need consent mode if I get visitors from the EU or UK?

If you advertise to people in the EEA or UK, Google's EU User Consent Policy expects you to collect their consent and share it with Google through consent mode. Without it your numbers and audiences are usually incomplete. We connect the banner and test accept and decline paths. We do not give legal advice, so check your cookie policy wording yourself.

What do I get at the end?

A working setup and a written test report listing every tracked action, how it is triggered, how we tested it, the result and anything we could not verify.
