What a Website Redesign Really Costs in 2026

What pushes a redesign quote up or down, when you do not need one at all, and how to change your site without losing the search traffic it already earns.

The short answer

Website redesign cost is driven by five things: how many different page layouts you need, who writes the content, which integrations the site must connect to, whether you sell online, and how much old content and how many old URLs must be migrated. With us, a business-site redesign starts from , and you get a fixed quote before any work starts.

Before you pay for one, check whether you need it. If the site loads slowly, or the copy does not say who you help and what to do next, fix those first: they are cheaper and often move results more. If the site is sound but its structure, platform or look is holding you back, a redesign makes sense, as long as it comes with a redirect map. Our pages on website design for US businesses and website design for UK businesses show how we work with owners in your market.

What drives website redesign cost

Two redesign quotes for sites that look the same from the outside can be far apart. The difference is almost always in the list below, not in the visual design.

Page count and unique layouts

Cost follows the number of different page designs more than the number of pages. Forty service pages on one well-built template are cheaper than eight pages that each need their own layout. Ask any agency how many templates your quote covers.

Content

If you keep your existing copy and photos, the quote drops. If the copy needs rewriting, or you need new photography, that work is real and should be a line item. A redesign that only changes the look leaves an unclear message just as unclear.

Integrations

Every connection adds work and testing:

  • Forms feeding a CRM or email tool
  • Booking or scheduling systems
  • Payment providers
  • Analytics and ad tracking
  • Stock, accounting or ERP systems

Ecommerce

A store costs more than a brochure site because of product count and variants, shipping and tax rules, payment methods, and moving product data and order history without errors. The number of products matters less than how messy the current product data is.

Migration and redirects

Moving blog posts, images, forms and old URLs to a new structure is where hidden cost lives. A proper redirect map takes hours of careful work, and skipping it is the most expensive saving you can make.

Redesign cost by site type

These are our starting prices by type of site. Your fixed quote comes after we review your current site, because the factors above move it up or down. The price shown adjusts to your region.

Redesign my website: what a redesign service covers

A redesign service should do more than change colours. It starts with a check of which pages already bring visitors and enquiries, so those pages are kept or redirected.

Then it rebuilds the layout for phones first, rewrites the weak pages, and tests forms, calls and tracking before the switch. At the end you hold the logins and the code.

When you do not need a redesign

Many owners ask for a redesign when the real problem is smaller. Check these first:

  • Speed. Run your key pages through Google PageSpeed Insights. Oversized images, too many scripts and weak hosting are common causes, and each can be fixed without a new design.
  • Copy. Can a stranger tell in five seconds what you sell, who it is for and what to do next? A clearer headline and one obvious call to action can lift enquiries on the site you already have.
  • Forms and contact paths. Long forms and buried phone numbers lose people who were ready to ask.
  • Tracking. If you cannot see which pages bring enquiries, you cannot judge what to change.

A redesign is justified when the platform is dated or insecure, the site cannot be edited without a developer, the structure cannot support new services, or the site fails on mobile in ways patches will not fix.

When not to hire us: if you only need copy edits, a plugin update or a speed fix, your current developer or a freelancer is probably cheaper. If your only test is the lowest quote, we are not the right fit. We price for continuity: senior engineers and a team that stays with you after launch, including website maintenance if you want it.

How to redesign a website without losing your SEO: the redirect map

A redesign can quietly lose search traffic if old URLs stop working or the pages that rank get thinner. A redirect map is the document that prevents it: a list of every old URL and the new page that replaces it.

Before the build

  • Crawl the current site to list every URL.
  • Export the pages that get search clicks from Google Search Console, and the pages that bring enquiries from your analytics.
  • Note which outside sites link to which pages. Those pages carry weight.
  • Keep the URL, title and main headings of your best pages unless there is a reason to change them.

What the redirect map contains

One row per old URL: the old address, the new address, the redirect type (301 for a permanent move), and a note on why it matters, such as search clicks, enquiries or inbound links. Point each old address straight at its final new address, because a chain of two or three redirects slows pages down and wastes the signal. Keep the redirects in place long term, not for a few weeks.

During the build

  • Map each old URL to its closest new equivalent. Do not send everything to the home page.
  • Carry over the content that earns rankings, and improve it rather than shortening it.
  • Keep the test version hidden from search engines, and make sure the live site is open to them at launch.
  • Update internal links, the XML sitemap and canonical tags.

After launch

  • Test the redirects by sampling old URLs.
  • Submit the new sitemap in Search Console and watch for crawl errors and 404s for the first weeks.
  • Expect some movement in rankings while search engines reprocess the site. Judge the result over weeks, not days.

If search is a main source of enquiries, pair the redesign with an SEO plan. Our SEO services for small business page explains what that covers.

Redesign or new website?

The words get mixed up, so decide by what you keep. A redesign keeps your domain, much of your content and your search history, and changes the look, structure or platform. A new website starts clean, usually when the brand, the business model or the whole offer has changed.

Keep the domain and the content that ranks in both cases. Starting from zero throws away years of search history for little gain, unless the old site's content is no longer true.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a website redesign cost?

It depends on page layouts, content, integrations, ecommerce and migration. Our business-site redesigns start from , and you get a fixed quote before any work starts.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It can if old URLs stop working or ranking pages lose content. A redirect map, kept URLs for your best pages and checks after launch protect your rankings. Some movement while search engines reprocess the site is normal.

Is a redesign or a new website better?

A redesign keeps your domain, content and search history, so it is usually better if the business has not changed. A new website suits a changed brand or offer. Fix speed and copy first if those are the real problems.

Can you work with clients in the US, UK and Europe from Kampala?

Yes. The Kampala team works East Africa Time (UTC+3), which overlaps the UK and European working day and the start of the US East Coast day, and a US team member joins client video calls.

My website looks outdated or is not mobile friendly. Do I need a redesign?

Common signs are that it does not work well on a phone, it loads slowly, the main action is hard to find, and it was built on tools that nobody supports any more. We review your site against these and tell you whether a fix or a full redesign makes sense. We do not push a rebuild when a repair will do. A quick test: open the site on your phone, check the text can be read without zooming, and check the contact button works with one tap.
