The short answer

Salon management software for Uganda should let you sell a haircut and a bottle of oil on one sale, record which stylist did the work, keep count of your hair products, and note cash, card and Mobile Money. Growth Informer Business does these things. It is our own cloud system, used by 6,500+ businesses, and it works on a phone, tablet or computer, with Android and iOS apps.

It is a till and stock system, not a booking app. It does not take online appointments or send reminders to clients, so keep using WhatsApp or a diary for that. If your problem is money going missing, unknown stock and no clear staff commission, it is a good fit. For the wider picture of tills in Uganda, read our guide to the best POS system in Uganda.

Where salons and barbershops lose money

Many salons are not short of customers. The money leaks in small places.

  • The product sold on the side. A stylist sells a bottle of oil or a pack of hair and the money never reaches the book.
  • Commission arguments. At month end nobody agrees who did which hair, so staff and owner both feel cheated.
  • Stock you only notice when it is finished. Relaxers, oils, shampoo, extensions and clipper blades run out in the middle of a busy Saturday.
  • No memory of the customer. You cannot say who your best clients are, or who has owed you for two weeks.
  • Mobile Money that does not match. The phone shows money in, the book shows something else, and the day cannot be closed cleanly.

A barbershop has the same problems at a faster pace: many short sales, one or two products, and a queue. A salon or spa has fewer but bigger sales, with several services and products on one customer. Both need the same base: honest records of every sale.

How a normal day works in the system

Morning: open the register

The cashier opens the register and enters the cash in the drawer. At closing time they close it, and the owner can compare what the system expects with what is in the drawer.

At the chair: one sale for services and products

You set up each service, such as a cut, braids, a wash and set, a manicure or a beard trim, as an item with its own price. Products such as oils, shampoo and hair are items with stock. The cashier adds the service and the product to the same sale, picks the customer, picks the stylist as commission agent, and takes payment. Products can have sizes or colours as variations, and you can print barcode labels for them.

Staff commission

Each stylist or barber is set up as a commission agent. When a sale is made, the agent is chosen on it, and the system adds up what that person earned. Commission follows the agent chosen on the sale, so if two staff work on one customer, tell us how you pay them and we will agree how to record it in the demo.

Stock and suppliers

Record what you buy from suppliers, and product stock goes up. Each product sale takes it down. If you run more than one branch, stock is kept per location and you can transfer it between branches.

Customers, credit and costs

Each customer has a record with their phone number and past sales. You can allow credit sales for trusted regulars and see who still owes you. Record expenses such as rent, water, power and staff meals, so reports show what is left after costs. Users and roles with permissions let you give a cashier the till without giving them your reports.

Growth Informer Business against the exercise book

Many salons start with an exercise book, and for one chair that can work. The table shows where it starts to fail.

The honest trade-off is the last row. If your clients book by app, you need a booking tool as well. Growth Informer Business covers the money, stock and staff side.

Mobile Money at the salon till, said plainly

Many salon customers pay with Mobile Money. In Growth Informer Business, Mobile Money is a payment method you pick inside the Multiple Pay window, next to cash and card. The sale then shows how the customer paid. The Payments (MoMo) tray records the payments you have confirmed.

One thing to be clear on: the system does not send a payment request to the customer's phone. The customer pays you as they do today, you see the money arrive, and the cashier records it on the sale. That keeps the day's totals matching the phone. To see how this works across all kinds of shops, read about a Mobile Money POS in Uganda.

If your salon is VAT-registered, EFRIS e-receipts can be switched on or off in the system. Whether your business needs EFRIS depends on your registration, so read do I need EFRIS and check with URA before you decide.

When this is not the right fit

We would rather tell you now than sell you the wrong thing.

  • You want clients to book online and get reminders. We do not offer that in Growth Informer Business. You need a separate booking tool, or a simple WhatsApp routine.
  • You work alone with one chair and no products. A notebook may be enough until you hire staff or start selling stock.
  • You only want a website. That is a different job. See our salon and spa website design page.

If your salon also sells other goods, such as a small boutique corner, the same system records those sales too. For a wider look at what the platform covers, see our business management software page, or ask us on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

Does the system book appointments or send SMS reminders?

No. Growth Informer Business handles sales, stock, customers, staff commission and payments. It does not take online appointments or send reminders to clients. Most salons keep bookings in WhatsApp or a diary.

How does staff commission work?

Each stylist or barber is set up as a commission agent. You choose the agent on the sale, and the system adds up what that person earned. If two staff share one customer, tell us how you pay them and we will agree how to record it.

Can it take Mobile Money?

Yes, as a recorded payment method. Mobile Money is picked inside the Multiple Pay window, and the Payments (MoMo) tray records confirmed payments. The system does not send a payment prompt to the customer's phone.

What does salon software cost?

It depends on your business: the number of branches, staff and what you want set up. We do not quote a price without hearing about your salon first. Ask for a quote or a demo on WhatsApp +256 702 946 946 or through the form.

Can I use it for a barbershop with several branches?

Yes. You can run multiple branches, keep stock per location, move stock between branches and give each user a role with permissions. Tell us how many branches you have and we will show it.

Does a salon need to issue EFRIS e-receipts?

It depends on how your business is registered and on what URA (the Uganda Revenue Authority) requires for your kind of business, so check with URA or your tax adviser rather than guess. Our guide do I need EFRIS explains the basics. If you do need it, Growth Informer Business has a switch to turn EFRIS e-receipts on.
