Hotel marketing in Uganda that wins direct bookings

Kampala and Entebbe hotels sell to leisure travellers, corporate and NGO guests, and conference organisers. We build the search, site and sales process for each, so more guests book with you and not through a middleman.

The short answer

Hotel marketing in Uganda works when you stop treating every guest as one buyer. A Kampala or Entebbe hotel usually sells to three: international leisure travellers (mostly from the US, UK and Europe), corporate and NGO guests, and conferences and events. Each searches differently, wants a different page and needs a different offer. The aim is to win those bookings on your own site and your Google Business Profile, and to treat OTAs as one channel, not the whole business.

In practice that means a hotel website built to take bookings, a properly set up Google Business Profile, a few well aimed ads, and a team that answers and closes quickly. Our Direct Booking System covers all of it, from filling the funnel to closing and keeping the guest.

Which guest do you want more of?Send your hotel name, town and whether you most want leisure, corporate or conference guests, on WhatsApp or the form.

Three buyers, three pages, three offers

Most Ugandan hotel sites have one homepage that tries to speak to everyone. It ends up convincing nobody. Split the job by buyer.

International leisure travellers

These guests plan months ahead and often build a trip around gorilla trekking in the southwest, Murchison Falls or Queen Elizabeth, then add a night or two in Kampala or Entebbe at the start or end. Entebbe airport is about 40 km from central Kampala, and the drive usually takes 40 to 60 minutes, longer in rush hour, so guests landing late often want to sleep near the airport and move on in the morning. They search for things like a hotel near Entebbe airport, a quiet base in Kampala, or a place to rest after a long flight. They want clear photos, an honest description of the airport transfer, a WhatsApp number that answers, and a simple way to book direct. Their trips cluster in the two dry seasons, roughly December to February and June to August, so your offer and ads should be ready before those windows, not during them. A package that bundles airport pickup, breakfast and a late checkout often beats a lower room rate.

Corporate and NGO guests

Business travellers, project teams and development-partner staff book for weekdays, often through a travel desk or an assistant. They care about location, Wi-Fi that holds, meeting space, invoices and a quick reply. For them the page is a corporate rate request: room types, long-stay terms, invoicing, airport transfers and a named contact. The best leads usually start as an email or a call, so the form should ask for dates, number of rooms and company name.

Conferences and events

Conference organisers shop for halls, rooms, meals and parking as one package. They want capacity, layout options, catering, equipment and a quote fast. A page for each hall with a request-a-quote form, plus a clear follow-up routine, wins more of this business than a line in a brochure. If you do not have a conference page, you are invisible to this buyer.

Direct bookings first, OTAs as one channel

OTAs are useful. They bring guests who would never have found you, especially in a new town or in low season. The problem is when they become the only way in: you pay commission on guests you could have won yourself, the platform controls the relationship, and repeat guests go back to the platform instead of to you.

Your own website

The site is where a guest who already knows your name should book. It needs fast loading on mobile, real room photos, a clear rate and availability path or a simple enquiry form, and WhatsApp on every page. If your site is old or hard to use on a phone, redesigning it is usually the first fix.

Google Business Profile

When someone searches for a hotel in Kampala or near Entebbe airport, the map result is often the first thing they see. A complete profile with current photos, correct categories, your website link, your WhatsApp number and replies to every review sends guests to you. Fill in every section, because an incomplete profile loses to a neighbour with a full one.

Where OTAs fit

Keep your OTA listings accurate and keep the rates consistent with your own site. Use them to be discovered, then give guests a reason to book direct next time: a better package, free airport pickup or a flexible change policy. Work out your own numbers first with the OTA commission calculator.

How to promote and advertise your hotel online, in the order that works

If you are asking how to promote or advertise your hotel or guest house online, do it in this order. Each step costs less than the next and makes the next one work harder.

  • Claim and complete your Google profile. Add real photos, the right phone and WhatsApp number, and ask for a review at check-out. See how to set up a Google Business Profile in Uganda.
  • Put every room, rate and a clear enquiry button on your own site. A guest who finds you should see what a room costs and how to ask.
  • Answer WhatsApp enquiries the same hour. A slow reply loses more guests than a missing ad.
  • Keep Booking.com for new guests and send past guests to your own booking route. The OTA commission calculator shows what each OTA booking really costs you.
  • Only then spend on ads. Ads sent to a weak page or a slow reply waste the budget.

Direct-first versus OTA-only

Here is how the two approaches differ for a typical Ugandan city hotel.

Direct-first marketing compared with relying on OTAs alone
What mattersDirect-first, OTAs as one channelOTA-only listing
Who owns the guest relationshipYou do: contact details, history and repeat bookings stay with the hotelThe platform does, and repeat guests often return to it
Corporate and NGO businessA dedicated corporate page and rate request that suits travel desks and project teamsMostly individual bookings with little room for negotiated rates
Conferences and eventsHall pages and a quote form, followed up by a trained teamPoorly suited, since organisers want a package and a person to talk to
Google visibilityYour site and Google Business Profile both work to bring guests to youThe platform listing ranks, and you compete on its pages
Commission costLower on the guests you win yourself, with a marketing cost that you controlPaid on every booking, and it grows as bookings grow
Speed to startTakes time to build, then keeps workingFast to list, but you stay dependent

Closing the enquiry and keeping the guest

Marketing only pays if the enquiry turns into a booking. A common leak is a hotel that pays for ads and then leaves a WhatsApp message unanswered for a day. By then the guest has often messaged other hotels.

Our Safari Growth Program works in three phases. Fill the funnel with the website, search, Google Business Profile, and Meta and Google ads. Close it with a reservations and sales process and training, because inquiries mean nothing if the team cannot close. Keep the guest with support during and after the stay, reviews, and repeat and referral business.

If your rooms, rates and availability are still managed on paper or in scattered spreadsheets, a hotel management system keeps bookings, front desk and reports in one place, so what you promise online matches what you can deliver. Lodges and camps face the same challenge, and our lodge marketing work uses the same method.

We stand behind the start of the work: "your first new inquiries within 14 days of going live, or we work free until they arrive".

When we are not the right fit

We are honest about this. We are probably not right for you if:

  • You are fully booked all year and do not want more guests.
  • You are not ready to answer messages quickly or to train your front desk and reservations staff.
  • You want a promise of a specific number of bookings, because we will not invent one.
  • You only need a logo or a few social media posts, without a booking path behind them.

We are a good fit if you own or manage a hotel in Kampala, Entebbe or a tourism town, you want more direct guests across leisure, corporate and conference business, and you will work with us to get the team ready. Growth Informer Software Services is a US-based company with remote teams around the world, including a team in Kampala, and a US team member joins client video calls. We give a fixed quote before work starts, and you own the code and data.

How to start

Send us four things on WhatsApp or the form: your hotel name, your country, what you sell (rooms, corporate rates, conferences, restaurant) and where inquiries come from today. We will tell you what we would fix first and what we would leave alone.

A good first week looks like this. We review your site, your Google Business Profile and your OTA listings. We pick the buyer with the most upside, usually the one you currently serve worst. Then we build the page, the offer and the follow-up routine for that buyer first, and add the others after. You can reach us on WhatsApp at +256 702 946 946.

Frequently asked questions

How much does hotel marketing in Uganda cost?

It depends on the size of the hotel, which buyers you want to win and how much needs fixing on your site and Google profile. We do not publish a one-size price. Send your hotel details on WhatsApp or the form and we will give you a fixed quote before any work starts.

Should my hotel stop using Booking.com and other OTAs?

No. OTAs are a useful way to be found, especially in low season. The goal is to build your own site and Google Business Profile so more of your guests book direct, and to use OTAs as one channel, not the only one.

Can you help us win corporate, NGO and conference business and not only tourists?

Yes. Corporate and NGO guests and conference organisers search and buy differently from leisure travellers. We build a separate page, offer and follow-up routine for each of the three buyers.

How soon will we see new inquiries?

Our guarantee is your first new inquiries within 14 days of going live, or we work free until they arrive. Bookings then depend on how quickly your team replies and closes, which is why we train the team as well.

Do you work with small hotels and guest houses?

Yes, if there is a real booking path to build and you are ready to answer enquiries promptly. If your needs are mainly property management, look at our hotel management system page first.

How do I fill my hotel on weekdays?

Midweek is where corporate, NGO, workshop and conference guests fit best. Make a midweek package, tell your past clients about it, and keep one page on your website with your meeting facilities and a request form. Then reply fast to every enquiry.

How do I get weddings and events at my hotel, not only room bookings?

Add an events page with your capacity, packages and photos, and an enquiry form that asks for the date and the number of guests. Offer a site visit arranged by WhatsApp, follow up for two weeks, and keep your event photos on your Google Business Profile (your free listing on Google Maps and search).

How can I attract more guests to my guest house or small hotel?

Start with what costs nothing: a complete Google profile with real photos, a reply to every enquiry on WhatsApp within the hour, and a review request at check-out. Then make sure your own website shows rooms, rates and how to book. Ads come last, once those three work.

How do I advertise my hotel online?

Put your rooms in front of people already searching: Google Maps and search first, then Booking.com for new guests, then paid ads once your enquiry route works. We help hotels in Uganda with each step.
