How to Get ChatGPT and Google AI to Recommend Your Safari Company

Why ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI name your rivals or a comparison portal instead of you, where their answers come from, and the checklist and monthly test that give you a fair chance.

The short answer

AI assistants name the safari companies they can find, read and cross-check in several places online. If ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI lists your competitors, or a comparison portal, instead of you, it usually means those names appear more often, more clearly and on more trusted sites than yours. You fix that by making your company easy to confirm: one clear page for each trip, your licence and registration shown, the same company name and address everywhere, a verified Google Business Profile, real reviews, and mentions on sites other people trust.

Nobody can guarantee a mention, and anyone who does is selling you a promise they cannot keep. What you can do is remove the reasons an assistant would skip you, then test every month: ask five buyer questions in two or three assistants and write down who is named. The rest of this guide shows where the names come from, the checklist, and how to run the test. It is part of the wider job of getting found online.

Where AI answers get their safari company names

An assistant does not know your company the way a past guest does. It builds an answer from what it learned in training, which is older, and, in many assistants, from a live web search at the moment of the question. Google's AI Overviews, the short AI answer at the top of some searches, sit on top of Google Search itself. Either way the answer leans on the same few kinds of source.

Why does ChatGPT name my competitors and not my safari company?

Almost never because they run better trips. It is usually one of three things: they are mentioned in more places, their pages state the facts plainly, or a portal that lists them is a site the assistant reads a lot. A small operator in Kampala, Nairobi or Arusha with an excellent guide team can lose to a bigger name with a thin trip page, simply because the bigger name is easier to confirm.

What do AI assistants look at when they pick a safari operator?

  • Comparison and listing sites. Portals that list many operators for gorilla trekking in Bwindi, the Masai Mara or the Serengeti are read a lot, so their names get repeated.
  • Review sites. Real guest reviews on Google and travel review sites such as TripAdvisor: how many there are, how recent they are, and whether the owner replied.
  • News and trade mentions. A tourism board listing, an industry body you belong to, a local news story, a travel agent partner naming you.
  • Your own pages. A page that says plainly what the trip is, where it goes, what is included and who you are is easy to quote. A page full of slogans is not.
  • Your Google profile and map listing. Name, address, phone, opening hours, photos and reviews, all in one place.

If a portal keeps beating you in these answers, our guide to safaribookings alternatives shows other ways to get booked. The assistants differ and they change often, so treat this as a map of where to work, not a recipe. A fix you make today may show in assistants that search the web within weeks, and in others much later. This is the same ground as tourism SEO, which simply means getting your trips found on Google, with one added aim: being easy for a machine to confirm.

Three ways to approach AI answers, compared in plain words
Rely only on comparison portalsBuild your own clear pages and proof (our advice)Do nothing
The portal decides how you are described and who is shown beside you.You decide the facts, the wording and the proof, on pages you own.Other people describe you, or nobody does.
Some portals charge fees or commission, and a paid listing usually ends when you stop paying.Mostly your time and one-off work. Pages and reviews keep working after you finish. No cost now, but you stay invisible while rivals build their names.
You may be named, but so are the rivals on the same page, and the portal itself may be named instead of you.Assistants can confirm who you are from several places that all agree.Assistants find little to confirm, so they name other companies.

The checklist: make your safari company easy to name

How do I get ChatGPT and Google AI to recommend my tour company?

Work in this order. The first items cost almost nothing and do the most. You can do all of it yourself.

  • A page for each trip, with plain facts. Number of days, where it starts and ends, the parks (for example Bwindi, Murchison Falls, the Masai Mara, the Serengeti), what is included, group size, the best season, and how to book. Put the facts in the first lines. See our list of safari website must-haves.
  • Your licence and registration, shown. Put your tourism licence and company registration, as issued in your country, on the about page and in the footer. Assistants and travellers both look for proof you are real. More in safari company trust signals.
  • One company name, address and phone number everywhere. Website, Google, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp Business and every review or listing site should match letter for letter. A short name in one place and a long name in another makes you look like two companies.
  • A verified Google Business Profile. Claim it, verify it, add real photos and every trip you sell. Our guide to setting up your Google Business Profile walks through it.
  • Real reviews. Ask every guest, on the last day and again a week after they fly home. Ask for Google and one travel review site, and reply to each one. Never buy or invent reviews. Here is how to get more Google reviews.
  • A short FAQ on each page. An FAQ is just a list of common questions with short answers. Use the questions travellers actually type: When is the best month to go? How fit do I need to be? Can you collect us from the airport? How do we pay? Answer in the first sentence, then add detail.
  • Mentions on trusted sites. Ask the bodies you truly belong to for a listing, work with travel agents who sell your trips and ask them to name you, and share useful facts with local writers. One honest mention on a site people trust is worth more than twenty on sites nobody reads.

If you only have one afternoon, do the Google profile and the trip pages. The rest builds on them.

How to check if AI mentions your company

How do I check if AI mentions my company?

Once a month, pick five questions in the words a traveller from the US, UK or Europe would type. Ask each one in two or three assistants, for example ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, and look at the Google AI answer when it appears above your search results. Here are five to start with. Change them to match your trips.

  • Best safari company in Uganda for gorilla trekking
  • Trusted Kenya safari operator for a family with teenagers
  • Who can arrange a Serengeti safari and a Kilimanjaro climb from Tanzania
  • Is [your company name] a real, licensed company?
  • [Your company name] reviews

Record each result in a simple sheet: date, assistant, question, which companies were named, whether you were named, and which sites it showed as sources. Keep the wording the same each month. Answers can change from one asking to the next, so look at the trend over three or four months, not one run.

The sources are the useful part. When an assistant shows where it got a name, open those pages. They tell you which portals, review sites and articles to work on next. For a wider view, read AI search visibility for small business.

What nobody can promise, and what paying can and cannot do

Can I pay to be listed in ChatGPT answers?

Not as a simple purchase of a place in the ordinary answer. Assistants and search engines are testing or adding labelled ads in some places, and the rules change often, so check the current ones before you pay anyone. A real ad is marked as an ad and sits apart from the unpaid answer. You can pay for Google ads for tour operators, which show as ads and are separate from the unpaid answer, and you can pay a portal for a listing, which makes your name more likely to be read but guarantees nothing. Be careful with anyone who sells a fixed "ChatGPT ranking" package or promises a mention.

Keep the size of this in view. For many operators most inquiries still come from Google search, past guests, travel agents and WhatsApp. Treat AI answers as one more place to be found, not the whole plan. The steps in how to get more safari bookings still do most of the work.

When you should not hire us for this

  • You do not yet have a tourism licence or company registration to show. Fix that first.
  • Your trips are not written down. Write one page per trip, then come back.
  • Your website is clear and your reviews are good. You may only need the monthly test above.
  • Your team cannot answer WhatsApp and email inquiries quickly. More visibility will only waste leads.
  • You want a guaranteed mention in ChatGPT. We will not sell that.

Where we can help, and where you can do it yourself

Growth Informer Software Services is a US-based company with remote teams around the world, including a team in Kampala, Uganda, and a US team member joins client video calls. We have built sites for safari and travel companies such as Entice Africa Safaris in Kenya and Legson Journeys in Kigali, Rwanda. For this topic our work is the checklist above, done for you: trip pages, trust proof, your Google profile and a review routine, run as part of the safari marketing and AI consulting for East Africa work we do.

The Safari Growth Program has three phases. Fill the funnel (the steady flow of new inquiries) with your website, search, Google profile and Meta and Google ads. Close it with a reservations and sales process and training, because inquiries mean nothing if your team cannot turn them into bookings. Keep the guest with support during and after the trip, reviews, repeat guests and referrals. Our guarantee covers inquiries, not AI mentions: "your first new inquiries within 14 days of going live, or we work free until they arrive".

If you want more guests booking straight with you instead of through portals, see the direct booking system. To see what portal commission costs you today, use the free commission calculator for online travel agent sites. We give a fixed quote before any work starts, and you own the code and the data.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone guarantee that ChatGPT will recommend my safari company?

No. Assistants choose names from what they can find and confirm, and they change often. You can make your company easier to confirm with clear trip pages, shown licence and registration, a matching name and address everywhere, a verified Google profile, real reviews and trusted mentions, but nobody can promise a mention.

How long before AI assistants start naming my company?

There is no fixed time. Assistants that search the web may pick up new pages and a verified Google profile within weeks, while others rely on older knowledge and take much longer. Run the five-question test every month and judge by the trend over three or four months.

What does it cost to get my safari company ready for AI answers?

It depends on your business: how many trips you sell, what your website and Google profile look like today, and how many reviews you already have. Many of the checklist steps you can do yourself for free. If you want us to do it, send your company name, country and what you sell on WhatsApp or the form and we will give a fixed quote before any work starts.

Do I need a new website to appear in AI answers?

Not always. If each trip already has its own page with plain facts, your licence shown and a short FAQ, you may only need to improve what is there. If your trips are squeezed onto one page or the site is hard to read, a rebuild may help.

Is Google AI the same as ChatGPT?

No. Google's AI answers sit on top of Google Search, so clear pages and a well-kept Google Business Profile are a sensible place to start there. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity each use their own mix of sources, which is why you test in two or three of them.
